The Blue Mountain got its name because of the illusion of misty blue when viewed from a distance. The fog dance when it collides with the mountainside as the location stretches 24 miles along the parishes of St. Andrew, Portland, St. Thomas and a tiny part of St. Mary. It is located north of Kingston. The coffee quality is unique owing to the fertile soil. It is a common belief to be the aftermath of prehistoric volcanoes resulting in centuplicates of soil culture. Over the next twenty four hours the red and now soft outer skin is separated then dampened beans are taken to certified facilities for processing. Next the beans are dried in the sun, cured and stored in jute sacks or wooden silos for at least eight weeks. Mmmmm, the aroma awakens. This curing process intensifies the conversion of flavor-enhancing compounds within the bean that significantly affects the richness of the Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee.

3.Jamaican Blue Mountain is certified internationally

The Jamaican Government established the Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica (CIBOJ) on June 2 1950, via the Coffee Industry Regulatory Act of 1948, to encourage the development of the coffee industry in Jamaica, and for the promotion of the welfare of the persons engaged therein. On January 1, 2018 the functions of the CIBOJ were taken over by the newly formed Jamaica Agricultural Regulatory Authority (JACRA), to be the watchdog, monitor and guard the quality of Jamaican coffee. JACRA regulates and detail quality checks once the licensed farmers take in the processed coffee beans. The beans would have been sorted individually by experienced hands. JACRA audits all barrels to ensure standard. The board is responsible for grading beans using a formula based on deficiencies, appearance and size.
